Nature is amazing! We have starry nights, purple mountain majesty, and glistening ocean waves. One feature of nature that many do not think of is the waterfall. These cascading waters can be small magical spots tucked away in a forest or be gigantic torrents thundering away. Let’s show these beautiful parts of nature with four amazing facts!
1. Interconnected waterfalls exist
We usually think of waterfalls being stand-alone features. Water cascades over some sort of edge into a body of water below. Plitvice Lakes National Park has waterfalls that buck this trend. Within the park are 16 interconnected nature features that allow the water to flow from one location to the next. The Galovac Waterfall found with the upper lakes and the Large Waterfall located with the lower lakes are considered the two main waterfalls in this amazing collection. Between these two are smaller waterfalls that empty into the bodies of water that lie between the two main waterfalls. This makes for an amazing set-up that very few sights in nature can rival.
2. Niagara’s rival
While Niagara Falls are what many think of when they hear the term referenced in conversation, there exists one that is so amazing that it made even Eleanor Roosevelt gasp in shock when she gazed upon this masterpiece of Mother Nature. Located within an area where Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay meet, the Iguazu Falls are not only taller but also can tout being twice as wide as Niagara! Those who have viewed the falls may persuade you to view this amazing feature from the Argentinan side, but any side of these falls is sure to leave you speechless!
3. The sky’s the limit
Want to know where to go to find the tallest waterfall? Then you’ll want to head to Central Europe to find the Krimmel Waterfall in Austria’s Hohe Tauren National Park! A glacial creek known as Krimmlr Ache provides the water that fuels the fall’s decent over a three tired rock formation. For the best view, a 90-minute hike will lead you to Bergerblick. This vantage point is said to allow viewers to enjoy these amazing falls in all their brilliant splendor!
4. Waterfall of the Gods
Godafoss, meaning “Waterfall of the Gods”, is a 40-foot tall and 100-foot wide waterfall. This horseshoe-shaped force of nature is located in Iceland. The story goes that the falls got their name when the chieftain disposed of the statues of their original gods into the waterfall after the people had converted to Christianity. Though originally treated like a garbage disposal of their old faith, the majesty of these falls is fascinating to behold.
All over the world, amazing waterfalls can be found. From the extremely tall to the amazingly elaborate, there’s a feat of water that will hold you spellbound. Each one holds amazing secrets and sights for you to discover. So, dust off your adventure duds and find one that captivates you today!
