In the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, between Libya and Italy, sits the island that is practically free of tourists, Malta. How it has managed to stay unexplored by travelers may remain unknown. This country has so much historical significance, sometimes it’s called as one giant open-air museum. Good food, diving, and a thriving opera scene are Malta’s significant attractions. With all this wrapped up in an island package, it’s hard to resist a trip to the island.

7,000 years of history

The island has a very mysterious history. Even after having many of the known parts, it still has some unknown and undiscovered parts of the country’s past. The first people came to the island around 5900 B.C. The knights of St. John fought battles here. Malta is home to one of the world’s oldest surviving buildings. Malta has no shortage of awe-inspiring history. Visit the Ghar Dalam Cave and Museum to see the oldest places on the island. Also, there’s a gigantic underground tunnel featuring fossils of Ice Age animals.

For more on Malta history, you can also visit Fort Saint Elmo. It’s a star-shaped stone structure, which is also a war museum. To get the taste of history and beauty together, St. John’s Cathedral can be on your list. Don’t let the plain exterior of the building fool your eyes, the inside of the Cathedral is just a masterpiece. It’s known as one of the most beautiful cathedrals in Europe.

Almost year-round sun

The weather in Malta is terrific, which is perfect since this country has so much to see and do. During summer, the sunny warm days are balanced by the breezes blowing in from the sea. Make sure that you visit the Barrakka Gardens. It’s not only famous for the view from the upper garden, but this garden offers stone archways, lush scenery, and fountains.

If you have time, you can also visit Comino. This is a small island next to Malta, which offers breathtaking underwater caves for divers. If you’re someone who doesn’t like diving, then there are many beautiful beaches in Malta. You can also do horse riding on the Golden bay and view the beautiful scenery. Or go for an evening ride and watch the sunset.

Art and music scene

This small island is known for its arts too. You can enjoy operas, musicals, and concerts at one of the open-air venues, or the Manoel Theatre, or at one of the two opera houses. MTV also hosts an annual music festival, so if you visit Malta at the right time, you can enjoy the performances from some of the most famous artists.
